DR. GERRY ZIMMERMAN
Oct 20 Morning - Keynote Speaker
"A Journey for Improvement and Innovation in a New Millennium"

This talk will describe how the Raytheon Company transformed from a group of industry competitors into a Mission System Integration Company.

Several years ago, Raytheon joined its competition in a sweeping acquisition of the major government, aerospace and defense portions of Hughes, Texas Instruments, E-Systems, along with smaller acquisitions such as a portion of Allied Signal. To make the newly formed company successful, Raytheon leaders needed to enable a significant and sustainable change to its culture, while still maintaining technological leadership and competitive edge.

Raytheon found all of this in their newly developed Raytheon Six Sigma program. Unlike historical Six Sigma, which measures the variability in a unit of work/process in an effort to drive to zero defects, Raytheon Six Sigma is an integrated business strategy that involves every employee, customer and supplier in an effort to design and monitor every day business activities in ways that minimize waste while ensuring customer success. The focus is on the value stream, and assuring that R6Sigma touches EVERYTHING. The talk will culminate with how this improvement strategy, teamed with classical six sigma, quality management systems, customer focused marketing and integrated supply chain allowed Raytheon to move its acquired parts into an Integrated One Company solution.
