BE A COACH: HELP OTHERS EXCEL
Abstract
Keywords: Performance, goals, change, actions, achievement
The new way to help people achieve goals, make things happen and have a more satisfying professional life (and learn about yourself along the way!)
Why Coaching?
In today's business environment, organizations are increasingly reliant on people performing at their peak to contribute to corporate goals.
Sometimes, behavior and circumstances prevent even the most motivated and committed people from achieving their potential. Common barriers to success are:
- Behaviors that work against individuals in the workplace
- Unresolved conflicts with superiors or co-workers
- Life and work balance issues
- Time management
- Poor career progression
Coaching provides people with a path to make changes and achieve goals that they might otherwise achieve more slowly or not at all.
What makes a good coach?
Anyone who supervises the work of others will find that at some time or other, they will be called upon to act as a "coach" for the people that report to them. A coach's role is to:
- Encourage people to stretch themselves and do things they might not otherwise consider doing by themselves.
- Help to find new perspectives on a problem, challenge or issue.
- Add a level of accountability to the process of achieving goals
- Provide a framework and structure within which to work and move forward
In this mini workshop, we will explore the role of a coaching as it relates to anyone who supervises the work of others. We will explore the Coaching Process and use of a few Assessment Tools as a basis to gain insight about motivation and behavior, and how to use the results of assessments to help people develop action plans for performance improvement.
