VALUE STREAM MAPPING: THE KEY TO PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

Abstract

We will demonstrate the importance of Value Stream Mapping, with the development of a current-state-map and future-state-map. Using three case studies: Hard Manufacturing, Assembly, and Soft Manufacturing (customizing proprietary software), we will demonstrate:

  • How the current-state-map paints a portrait of the problem
  • The process modeling nature of the future-state-map
  • The importance of planning the transition and
  • The benefits derived from implementing the transition plan.

    Presentation Outline

    1. The Basics of Value Stream Mapping
    2. Case Study number one: Hard Manufacturing
      1. The Current State Map
      2. Development of Takt Time
      3. Development of Future State Map
    3. The other two Case Studies
      1. Case Study number two: Assembly
      2. Case Study number three: Soft manufacturing
    4. Summary and Q & A

    Presentation Modalities
Lecture b. Interactive discussion c. Case Study d. Question and Answer

    Presentation Deliverables

Following this presentation the participants will be able to:

    1. Prepare simple Current State Value Stream Maps
    2. Be able to discuss the implications depicted by the current state map,
    3. Develop operational Takt Time, and
    4. Recognize where and what improvements are required.
