Six Sigma and your Bottom Line
Dr. Eli Baron, Six Sigma Consultant
QPS, Inc.
One Sunny Hill, Oxford, MA

Quite often, in Six Sigma projects, the focus and emphasis are on technical accomplishments and the financial impact is overlooked. From product development to manufacturing, this paper explains and analyzes how different scenarios affect the financials, and can be used as a template for your own business.

In the first part, we explore how internal factors such as voice-of-the-customer analysis, market research, product development, product planning, delay in commercialization, early and full production issues affect Yield (or Waste/Scrap), Cp (Process Capability) and Sigma level, and are translated into business metrics such as Profit, NPV (Net Present Value), IRR (Internal Rate of Return) and COPQ (Cost Of Poor Quality).

In the second part, we examine the influence of external factors (such as competition, market dynamics, laws and regulations, scientific breakthroughs, and national and international political and economical developments) on business metrics by means of fluctuations of selling price and volume, and cost of goods sold.
